10 Tips for Achieving Happiness I wish I had Learned Sooner
6. Own your state of mind
No one else is responsible for your happiness. That also means no one else is responsible for your lack of happiness. End of story. First and foremost, you have the ability to control your mind, to choose what thoughts you entertain and which ones you dismiss, to focus on positive or negative, to be angry or to find a silver lining. The power is entirely yours. Stop blaming other people, their actions, or external forces for your moods. Stop allowing your brain to control you, you must control it. Don’t get me wrong, this takes practice and time to master. Our brains are so busy, it is easy for them to take us down rabbit holes of negativity. You have to be the driver, not the passenger. You have to put a stop that nonsense. Here’s a trick I learned: Gratitude is the easiest way to put yourself in a positive mindset. When you wake up, flush whatever you’re feeling down the toilet. Think of how lucky you are, even if you are at an all-time low, consider the positives: you’re alive, you get to experience another day, you have people that love you, etc. When you master it you can even turn a negative around. Pain provides a lesson to learn, be thankful for it. Hardship teaches us perspective, be thankful for it. Remember, life is an amazing experience which we are all lucky to get. Don’t spend it thinking about your problems or you will miss what is right in front of you. And don’t let other people cost you your happiness.
