10 Reasons to Love the Free Market
8. The free market improves education
The evidence overwhelmingly supports the belief that a free market in education would foster greater educational outcomes. A review of the evidence on the effectiveness of school choice programs clearly shows that in more than 150 statistical comparison covering eight different educational outcomes, the private sector outperforms the public sector in the overwhelming majority of cases. Moreover, this margin of superiority is greatest when the freest and most market-like private schools are compared to the least open and least competitive government systems.
It’s interesting to observe that the government run American public school system is one of the worst in the developed world, mass producing mediocre students with its policies like the “No child left behind” Act of 2001. The privately run schools and universities, on the other hand, are an envy of the rest of the world. That’s why foreign students flock to American universities, and they don’t even mind paying higher tuition fees than US citizens for a chance to get the coveted high quality education.
