3. Steering, braking, safety features become disabled while driving

In February GM recalled over 1.6 million vehicles for faulty ignition switches which could cause steering, braking, and safety features to fail while in operation. In March they recalled an additional 1.5 million vehicles. GM now acknowledges 19 deaths which have resulted from this defect. Evidence indicates GM had knowledge of the faulty ignition switch while it was still in pre-production in 2001.

Models affected: 2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac G5 and Pursuit; 2003-2007 Saturn ION; 2006-2007 Chevrolet HHR; 2006-2007 Pontiac Solstice; 2007 Saturn Sky, Open/Vauxhall GT, Daewoo G2X, 2004-2006 Chevrolet Malibu, Malibu Maxx and Pontiac G6; 2004-2007 Saturn ION; 2008-2009 Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura; 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt; 2009-2010 Chevrolet HHR
