 Anthem by Ayn Rand

Ayn Rand was a young woman when she fled the Soviet Union, lying to officials as she needed to escape. Her writings and philosophy concern the individual and the objective foundation for human rights and morality. Always controversial, Rand defends self-interest, individual rights, and capitalism. In Anthem she describes a dystopia based on collectivism where the word “I” has been eliminated from language, and the concept of “self” erased from consciousness. One characters quest for knowledge, happiness, and the advancement of civilization makes him an outlaw to society. A modern adaption of the story of Prometheus, Anthem is a wonderfully engaging, quick read.
