36. Sanders, Harland

“I’ve only had two rules: Do all you can and do it the best you can. It’s the only way you ever get that feeling of accomplishing something.”

Colonel Harland Sanders, or The Colonel as he is popularly known, was an American businessman, and fried chicken icon. He is best known for founding Kentucky Fried Chicken, a company he later became the Goodwill Ambassador, spokesman, and symbol for. His image is proudly featured on KFC restaurants and products. The Colonel started selling friend chicken from a roadside restaurant in Corbin, Kentucky during the Great Depression. Sanders saw potential in the restaurant as a franchise and opened the first Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise in 1952. In 1962, he sold the company for a fortune. He was later hired as a spokesperson and his likeness was used to market KFC.
