In a lengthy, humorous, but powerful indictment, Oliver takes apart the US prison system, its racial inequalities, and booming population of non-violent offenders. He also manages to insult a crocodile and channels Sesame Street to help him get his point across.
Oliver is building on a powerful idea made famous by John Stewart and Stephen Colbert at Comedy Central, that using comedy as a medium can sometimes better relay complex social issues. And one doesn’t necessarily have to agree with all his opinions to enjoy the show and have a few laughs.
