8 Unbelievable Ways Government Wastes Your Money
8 Enlisting Superman in the US National Guard
The US government shelled out $10 million to subsidize promotion of Superman: Man of Steel, the blockbuster movie which earned over $600 million world-wide at the box office. The funding was part of National Guard promotional deal aimed to boost recruitment. Superman-National Guard tie-ins were everywhere: in theaters, online, and even on race cars. The result was a failure. The National Guard soon had to cut over 100,000 personnel due to budget issues. It would seem the $10 million wasted on the Superman promotional campaign could have gone a long way to paying for some of those soldier’s salaries. What’s that in the sky? It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s a giant waste of ta payer money!
