Milton Friedman (1912-2006)

A Jewish man born in Brooklyn and raised in New Jersey, Milton Friedman would become a notorious one man wrecking crew of misinformed Keynesians. In addition to spending thirty years teaching economic theory at The University of Chicago, Friedman was an economic advisor during Barry Goldwater’s unsuccessful presidential bid and held the same position during Ronald Reagan’s presidency. Friedman was the sole recipient of the 1976 Nobel Prize in Economics and has become a Republican/libertarian icon. Capitalism and Freedom (1962) and Free to Choose: A Personal Statement (1980) are likely his most accessible works. He was a working economist until the day he died, with his last column appearing in The Wall Street Journal the day after his death.
