From Massachusetts, we have former Amherst Pelham Regional High School teacher Ronald T. Garney. Mr. Garney was arrested in November 2006 after an investigation lead to the discovery of a cache of child pornography on his computer with more than 600 photos and 85 movies. He admitted to purchasing and possessing child pornography and was sentenced to 2 1/2 to 3 years in the penitentiary, 10 years probation and required to register as a sex offender. After some years of court wrangling, Mr. Garney was awarded a yearly pension worth $28,725 a year because his crimes did not reach “inside the schoolhouse.” So, because his perversion did not touch the children he was entrusted to teach, Massachusetts taxpayers will end up paying him.
