What the Right believes: The Right chastises the Left for their support of paternal government, central planning, and failure to allow citizens economic freedom.
The Truth is: The Right have been traditionally vocal defenders of the Social Security program. Their support for such a program actually contradicts many of their economic tenets. It’s big government, central planning, which prevents individuals from adequately investing for their own retirements. The argument for why government needs to do this? If it doesn’t people won’t be able to plan for themselves! Sounds pretty anti-economic freedom. In 2010 the program began paying out more than it was taking it. The program is a social welfare, centrally planned mess.
