6. Denali Commission
It isn’t often a government official asks to be terminated and his agency eliminated. But that’s exactly what the head of the federal government’s Denali Commission did last summer. The Denali Commission was funded to promote rural production in the state of Alaska. Last summer Denali Commission Inspector General Mike Marsh called the Commission a “congressional experiment that hasn’t worked out in practice,” and asked that funding for the project be cut. Despite this, more funding was awarded and Marsh’s words were ignored. The Commission has received nearly $20 million in federal funding.
