American as Coca Cola

In the 1940’s Coca-Cola was playing both sides of the fence. In America they were providing the troops with tasty drinks and supporting American GIs, all while the company’s German branch, Coca-Cola GmbH, was building bottling factories in occupied states, advertising on Nazi press, and supporting the Nazi cause. In 1941, when the Coca-Cola head office cancelled the supply of syrup used to make Coke, Max Keith, who was in charge of Coca-Cola GmbH, ordered a new drink created to keep the relationship with the Nazis going. Using the ingredients on hand this led to the creation of Fanta. That’s right, Fanta, the multi-flavored bubbly drink many of us drink today, was in fact created specifically to profit off the Nazis.
