3. First Family Vacations
As the President and First Lady decry many Americans for ‘not paying their fair share’ and not having the money to keep parts of the government open, including vital services for veterans, the couple has lived it up during their time in the White House. Just in the year 2013, the First Family dropped over $7 million of taxpayer dollars on vacations to Martha’s Vineyard, Hawaii, and California. Michelle Obama’s trip to Africa in 2011, cost nearly half a million dollars, more than many Americans make in a decade. Because White House travel records are not subject to the Freedom of Information Act, those numbers could actually be considerably higher. It seems like the President’s demands that people sacrifice apply to everyone but himself and his loved ones.
