Licenses – Occupational licensing, while necessary in many fields, is often a way in which  governments limit competition and suck money out of any would-be entrepreneurs. The fact is many states have onerous, unreasonable licensing requirements for professions that may make you scratch your head. Like tour guides, for instance. 21 states require an occupational license to be a tour guide. We can only imagine that the other 29 states are overflowing with uninformed and lost tourists. But such regulation adds unnecessary costs and time to enter in the field, deterring competition and young entrepreneurs. Like in Nevada, where the licensing requirements to cut hair require two years of training, $140 fee, and an apprenticeship. These barriers into these fields do more to hinder the economy and Americans’ choices than they do to protect consumers.
