10 Ways to Restore America’s Overseas Image
8. The State Department Must Revamp Its Hiring Process
One of the more comical aspects to watching Hillary Clinton say her most significant accomplishment as Secretary of State was she “rebuilt the image of the U.S. around the world“, is the abject ridiculous nature of the proclamation. Intelligent folk will remember the 2010 State Department WikiLeaks controversy, which led to Hillary spending the better part of the following year apologizing to every head of State for the belittlement from her staff, or the ridiculous nature of the “reset” policy with Russia which started with a humiliating and prophetic gaffe in 2009. Clinton presented Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov with a gift-wrapped red button, which said “Reset” in English and “Peregruzka” in Russian. The problem was, “peregruzka” doesn’t mean reset. It means overcharged, or overloaded.
Apparently, things haven’t changed much since Secretary John Kerry took the office. The State Department staff has been notorious for their incompetence, and former Press Secretary Psaki has even become a symbol of stupidity in Russia and other countries for her seeming ignorance of foreign affairs.
The State Department must change its hiring practices to ensure that only the best and the brightest cadres get positions at home and in its missions abroad. US diplomacy is at the forefront of American global interests and the nation can’t afford to have this level incompetency
in the highest echelons of power.
