During the last few years the relations between Pakistan and the West have worsened substantially. For Americans, the fact that bin Laden was hiding for years in a major Pakistani garrison town surrounded by Pakistani army cantonments and retired officers’ homes confirmed the U.S. view that the country engages in a complex double game of patronizing terrorists and helping Al-Qaeda to rebuild its infrastructure in Pakistan’s heartland.
