8. Eliot Spitzer’s Prostitution Scandal
Former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer grew his reputation as one of the country’s toughest prosecutors, in part by busting prostitution rings. He was proclaimed to be one of the leading opponents of what he called the commercial exploitation of women. What more appropriate way for his political career (and term as Governor ) to come to an end could there be, than having it come to light that he was a patron of an upscale escort service that was operated by Emperors Club VIP? Lacking any shame whatsoever, Spitzer later ran for New York State Comptroller, losing to Scott Stringer in the primary, by less than five points. Perhaps most entertaining of all is that Kristin Davis, his former madam, also ran in the race, albeit withdrawing early.
