9. Obama on Children
Speaking about the tragic events in Newtown, CT, following a school shooting in which twenty innocent lives were lost, President Obama spoke out forcefully. Among the many quotes from his speech are, “This is our first task, caring for our children. It’s our first job. If we don’t get that right, we don’t get anything right.” While those words may sound nice in a soundbite, the truth is that Obama has arguably worked harder against protecting the lives of children than any other politician in American history. He was even the sole member of the Illinois state legislature to vote against the Born Alive Infant Protection Act. Apparently, caring for children only matters after doctors and parents decide that they feel like it.
