4. Tort Reform

Tort reform is something most Americans don’t understand. The word tort has very little meaning outside those of us who have studied law. But if you said Lawsuit Abuse Reform, Americans will automatically understand the problem. You can then explain that this would limit or prevent frivolous lawsuits and how that would lower insurance premiums for healthcare providers, etc. But if the person you’re talking to thinks you want to reform a French pastry, then you’re likely not going to get your point across. I am convinced that if more Americans understood that tort reform was really just frivolous lawsuit reform, that this would certainly be addressed by both major parties. Just remind them of the famous lady who spilled her McDonald’s coffee on her lap and sued for millions because it was hot.
