9. Labor Union

A union sounds like something people voluntarily join for mutual benefit. However, in many places and many markets, being a member of one of these unions isn’t a choice. Paying your dues isn’t a choice, either. And you don’t get a say on what politicians your union decides to contribute to. Unions also use their political poll to bully competition and gain dominance over their markets. They’ve had a long and sordid history with organized crime. A much better term for a labor union would be a labor cartel. This is far more accurate a term in describing how they function. Just remember when you see them making demands, or threatening to use their political pull to shut down businesses, industries, or even states, that’s all part of the job of a labor cartel.
