7. Yankee Candle Company

America’s premier candle manufacturer began out of a batch of melted crayons in a garage in South Hadley, Massachusetts. Michael Kittredge melted those crayons to make a scented candle for his mother at age 16. People liked the idea and Kittredge made more. By age 20 the Yankee Candle Company was running out of an old mill in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Today Yankee Candle manufactures more scented candles than any other company in the country.
