7. It Will Improve the Security of North America

It’s been 22 years since the North American Free Trade Agreement was signed. But in this post-9/11 world the US-Canada border is worse, or thicker, than ever before. There are new regulations due to U.S. concerns about security and drug smuggling out of Canada. The total cost of these barriers is unknown, but involves thousands of border guards, facilities, additional paperwork and regulatory requirements, inspectors, and even drones in certain areas.

But instead of improving our security we dilute it by sending our precious resources to guard the northern border. By eliminating customs and border protection force between the US and Canada and moving personnel and technical support to our southern border, where we need it the most, we will actually be able to protect our borders much better. We already have security and defense cooperation between the two countries. By forming the North American Union, we can extend that cooperation to a common entry-exit level immigration and passport control, a unified military force, and a united border, stretching from the Arctic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico.
