10. America Must Stop Being A Police State

People abroad are horrified at the power the police have in the US. America far exceeds the prison population of any other country, including such giants as China. In America you can go to jail for such minor infractions as unpaid parking tickets or missed toll bills. The legal system is notoriously backward and is keen on punishing and incarcerating as many people as possible for as long as possible. The image of America abroad is that of a trigger happy cop who shoots first, and asks the questions later.

Digital intrusion into Americans’ lives is also skyrocketing. The NSA activities did a lot of damage to the image of America around the world. Many Americans don’t know or don’t care that the NSA is downloading two billion of their emails a day and American citizens’ text messages. They admit to hacking into 160,000 Facebook pages a day to see what you’re doing.

Unless the American people wake up to the reality of an unjust legal system and an oppressive police state, the image of the country abroad will continue to deteriorate.
