5. Research remote attractions first

Especially when it comes to ancient sites, some of the most talked about tourist attractions are well off of what is considered “the beaten path”. In fact, they may require trips of several hours, or perhaps even days, for those who want to reach them. To be sure, many of these destinations are well known for good reason. Especially if you have one on your bucket list, it’s usually worth the trip. In other cases, though, sites that are well known are far from worth it, and you would be better off spending more time in the place from which you would be traveling. Be sure to do a bit of homework online or, better yet, chat with other travelers who have just made the trip, to make sure that it’s worth it before you plunk down a good hunk of change for a special trip.
