5. Governing is Harder than Campaigning

Obama is haunted by broken campaign promises. It is something George W Bush was no stranger to, either. The reason is simple: it is easier to campaign than to govern. Bipartisan support is often required to get complex legislation through; even a president with the best intentions won’t be able to accomplish a lot of their goals. Unfulfilled campaign promises become a liability to your party during midterm elections. They become the easy pickings of the opposition. George Bush ran on a small government plank, Obama on an antiwar platform—neither was able to avoid disappointing their constituents.
