China has repeatedly accused America of interfering in Asia’s affairs and exerting its military, political, and economic influence around the world. Yet, while the US has been reducing the size of its military and pulling out of Iraq and Afghanistan, China has embarked on a totally opposite agenda. It has bullied its neighbors by instigating border disputes and claiming 90% of the South China Sea as its rightful territory; it has extended its tentacles to Central Asia, Africa, and Latin America, and it has enlarged its military and rebuilt the navy. If the current rate of China’s aggressive neo-imperialism continues to go unchecked, in the near future we might see the emergence of a jingoistic superpower hellbent on world dominance. China’s encroaching into America’s backyard by building the new trans-oceanic canal in Nicaragua, whose sole purpose is to undermine the Panama Canal shipping route, should also be duly noted.
