10 Reasons to Oppose Minimum Wages
4. Any benefits had are negated
When SeaTac raised its mandated minimum wage to $15, the workers that “benefited” soon found out that other things they used to enjoy, like free parking and product discounts, went by the wayside. These changes did not effect just those workers who were making the minimum wage, but those just above it as well. Add this to the fact that all these employees are likely having to perform added duties for jobs that are no more thanks to that new wage floor, and it seems to equal more frustration for a minimal actual gain in contentment. Employers are not taking away these benefits because they are spiteful, it’s just that they simply can’t afford to raise wages and not make cuts.
