10 Reasons to Oppose Minimum Wages
7. Some jobs just aren’t worth $15 an hour
Like the invalid envelope stuffers I mentioned earlier, many jobs just aren’t worth $15 an hour. A mandated minimum wage will result in these jobs not being created at all or being created “extra legally”. Yeah, they’re probably not great jobs but my days being poor have taught me that an extra $20 a week can sometimes make a huge difference. If someone wants to pay their neighbor $5 an hour to help her braid hair in a carport, and their neighbor wants to do it, what’s the issue? Is the neighbor being somehow exploited? And how much value does the girl who gets my coffee in the morning really producing? Her tip cup is always full, yet she should have her wages nearly doubled?
