9. Alaska Will No Longer Be an Exclave, Isolated From the Rest of the US

Currently, our 49th state is economically and geographically isolated from the rest of the country. If someone wishes to travel from Seattle to Anchorage by car or boat, they have to pass two borders and customs checkpoints in order to get to their destination. This is not just a mere hassle that takes away some of your travel time. The laws in Canada and US are different, which means that you are legally prohibited to bring many things into Canada, even if your intention is just to transit through the country on the way to Alaska. This affects northbound US travelers immensely, especially if they need to move from the mainland to Alaska or vice versa, and have to carry a lot of stuff with them.

The customs and border also disrupts the lifestyle and the daily activities of the Native Indian tribes and the Alaska natives, whose reservations span across the border of our two countries. If the border is eliminated, then the travelers, workers, tourists and the trans-border indigenous population will be free to go back and forth across the border without worrying about unintentionally “smuggling” too much money, alcohol, tobacco, or the wrong kind of firearms.
