5. Unpaid Interns
198 Democrats in the House and Senate are co-sponsoring legislation in support of raising the minimum wage, arguing that people both need and deserve higher wages for the work that they do. Among the sponsors of the bill are Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Al Franken, Chuck Schumer, and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. Those members, along with all but eleven of their fellow co-sponsors, don’t pay the interns in their offices. While interns in some businesses may have limited responsibilities, interns on Capitol Hill are some of the hardest workers in Washington. Apparently, the rules that Congressional Democrats want to apply to everyone else don’t apply to them. Talk about, “Do as I say, not as I do.”
